About Us

Born from Love. Built on a Dream

I Can Cook 2 was born from the life of one remarkable young man, Sage.  Sage was many things. A saxophonist who could move a room to tears. A culinary artist who understood that food is science, creativity, and connection all at once. A son, a brother, a friend, and somewhere along the way, a teacher. It was in that last role that something quietly extraordinary happened. Sage opened his heart to a young man with special needs and became, in every way that mattered, a big brother. He sat with him, cooked with him, laughed with him, and taught him — not out of obligation, but out of genuine love. He believed, without hesitation, that this young man was capable of more than the world gave him credit for. That belief is the foundation of everything we do here.

What We Do

I Can Cook 2 is a cooking-based life skills program designed for individuals with special needs. We believe that learning to cook is about so much more than food.  It's about independence, confidence, creativity, and pride. It's about saying I made this. Our program meets participants where they are. With the support of caregivers, family members, and trained helpers, we guide individuals through approachable, engaging cooking experiences tailored to varying levels of ability and independence. Whether someone needs hands-on guidance every step of the way or just a little encouragement to try something new — there is a place for them here.

Why It Matters

Independence looks different for everyone. For some, it's living alone. For others, it's simply being able to make breakfast without asking for help. Both matter. Both deserve to be celebrated. Sage understood that. He never measured someone's worth by what they couldn't do, only by what they hadn't tried yet.

In His Memory

His Vision

Sage passed away in November 2023. He was 32 years old. He was curious, compassionate, wildly talented, and deeply loved. He battled things that were bigger than him for a long time, and his loss left a hole that words cannot fill. But his dream didn't leave with him. I Can Cook 2 is his dream and a mother's promise to her son that his vision, his dream, will live on.  That his love for people will keep doing what it always did, and that somewhere out there, someone will stand in a kitchen, make something they're proud of, and not even know that a young man named Sage made that moment possible.
